We are delighted to announce that we were recently awarded a Civic Trust award for commitment to the community and heritage. To celebrate we are offering $6 pints of Cassels Beer every Thursday from 4pm until 6pm - come on down!

Always fresh - we are bottling weekly and have a continual supply of Pilsner, Lager, Beer, Dunkel, Weisbeer, One PA. Available only from 'The Brewery', $7 for a 500ml bottle ($1 refund for the bottle). One litre bottles coming soon. Please look after this unpasteurised, unfiltered, living beer. Once purchased treat it like milk; keep it refrigerated and out of direct sunlight. Consume as soon as possible, "Because Fresh is Best!".

I can remember my dad and uncle first getting keen on whole grain brewing in the early eighties. My dad used to mash and boil on the wood fired range at home in Sumner. Cleaning out the gear was always an onerous task but on sunny weekend afternoons we got to taste the goods and compare our beer with uncle Wintons.

At the Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards (2011) Cassels & Sons won:
~ Gold for Milk Stout
~ The Trophy for Milk Stout
and Silver for Best Bitter in the Cask Conditioned category.

Sweet Stout Wins Out (Carl Hadler)
Dispensed by a traditional handpump, this beer was the gold medal and trophy winner for the best cask conditioned beer at the 2011 Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards. And if you’re thinking dry and bitter, like that famous Irish stout - forget it!
Pouring an intense black hue beneath a deep, tan coloured head, the aroma is appetisingly rich, with a sweetish, mocha-like combination of chocolate and coffee notes dominating. Creamy and smooth, with just an edge of sweetness, the combines milk chocolate, caramel and soft fruity esters and leads into a cleansing finish with an ashy, charred malt note and suggestion of tart hops. 

Cassels & Sons is a craft brewery, brew bar, deli-cafe and wood fired pizza restaurant. The Brewery hosts live music on most nights and is open from 7am until late. Please come and enjoy our hospitality.
