Cassels & Sons Woolston Bitter 3.9%:
Cask conditioned and served from a traditional handpump, this amber-copper coloured beer sits stylistically somewhere between an English bitter and a mild ale. The aroma and palate offer a combination of smooth nutty and toffeish malt flavours, but Kiwi -grown versions of two classic English hop varieties (Fuggles and Goldings) reward it with earthy, woody and herbal notes and an appetisingly dry finish. Given the beer’s depth of flavour, gentle carbonation and comparatively low level of alcohol, you’ll probably soon be back for a second or third glass.
Enjoy it with fish and chips or a ploughman’s lunch and you’ll soon be thinking of leisurely afternoons in English pubs.

A Pale Mild session ale - lightly hopped, with a clean, malty flavour. 'This is Cassel’s ordinary bitter and for all intents and purposes is a mild ale with a bitter twist. Pours a gorgeous copper-amber with a tight white enduring head that leaves good lace from handpull. Not much in the way of obvious carbonation (not a bad thing) and served at a good 10-12 degrees. Mild aromas, more malt driven and creamy. Nutty, smooth, sweet and malty. Hops take very much a back seat here so is well within style. This is the beer that made Yorkshire great and the Mrs hated it so definite plusses for me. Good session beer'
